How to make cheap seed modules…

Here’s a little money-saving how-to that has been passed down from mother to daughter. It can be used for all plants, but legumes especially hate their roots being disturbed, so this method allows you to pot them up without touching the roots!

My mum has been making modules like this for years. They’re free, environmentally friendly, and compostable. When it comes to potting on the plant, all you do is lift the entire module and place it in the new pot- no damage to roots!

Here’s how to make this brilliant little pot.

  1. Take an old envelope. Or newspaper. Or just about any old paper really!Make_Free_Modules
  2. If using an envelope, open out so you have the most paper you can get from it.How_To_Sow_Seeds_3
  3. Cut in half. Place one half flat on the table and roll up. My mum always did this around a rolling pin, but I find it easier to do it by hand. Whatever suits you!How_To_Seed_ModulesHomemade_Module_2
  4. Tape or glue the edge down.Seed_Module_1Plant_Seeds_Free
  5. Place in old ice cream tub along with loads more. Then fill with compost, water, and plant!

So there you go- a useful little how-to that will save you money, and save your plants!

Try it, and don’t forget to be frugal!
